Post subject:  Sale of Verde Canyon RR Host Railroad

This is a transfer of ownership of the "Clarkdale Arizona Central Railroad," more commonly referred to as the Arizona Central RR, in north-central Arizona, the host of the noted Verde Canyon Railroad excursion operation which uses about half of the line's route and turns at Perkinsville.

The Verde Canyon and ACRR have long been considered a joint operation, with freight operations confined to one customer, a large cement plant in Clarkdale which receives coal and sends out finished cement. The cement plant at the line's BNSF junction is "served" by a now-functionally-separate switching operation, the Drake Connecting RR, mentioned in the STP application.

There is no mention of the passenger operation in the application, but one person with some inside info has suggested to me that this will be a positive development for the passenger operation, which recently undertook engine rebuilding of the line's two ex-Alaska RR FP7's and has borrowed AZCR freight power for the excursions during the process.
