I found another gem in the items saved from the Kansas City Southern files by longtime (1940-1984) KCS employee Robert Campbell;

This is a January 16, 1912 Memorandum from KCS Telegraph Superintendent R.L. Logan to KCS General Manager J.E. Muhlfeld regarding his visit to the McKeen Motor Car Works in Omaha, Nebraska.

Looks like a early but likely unintentional example of what rail vehicle engineers now call "crash energy management".

I have known about this incident for a good while, but the nice quality photos, as opposed to printed photo in a magazine, is quite nice, and what a coincidence, as I recently bought a General Electric Motor Car Catalog from the Kansas City Southern I believe.
