Google Ad Grants are real and legit: Google Ad Grants helps nonprofits share their causes with the world. Raise awareness, attract donors, and recruit new volunteers using Google search ads. Google Ad Grants shows your message to people searching for nonprofits like yours. Each qualifying nonprofit has access to up to $10,000 per month in search ads shown on Google.com. Additional Google Ads may be purchased in a separate account. https://www.google.com/grants/ However, anyone reaching out to you offering to manage your Google grants should be very carefully vetted and could even be a scam. At best, they're charging you money to do something your group can easily do on your own. |

About 10 years ago I managed the Google Ad Grant account for a museum. It does take some iteration to get search terms tuned well to your org that get any impressions. Even after you've set it up to your satisfaction you still should log in periodically to monitor impression counts and tweak it if needed. It does take some creativity to come up with search terms that get any impressions, because terms you might want to use like "fun things for kids to do" have heavy competition from paying Ad accounts. |

You'll also get some unwanted competition from totally random places. Years ago, when I was the webmaster at Mt Rainier Scenic Railroad, we went to an all day seminar on optimizing the website. It turned out that I was doing pretty much everything right and we ranked top on pretty much every search term, or in the case of "Mt Rainier" second only to the official Mt Rainier National Park website. However, we had one term we were totally buried in. That was the name of the largest nearby city. Seattle we did OK on, but Tacoma, WA is even closer and that was tough nut to crack. The problem is "Toyota Tacoma" pickups, with Toyota and hundreds of dealers all spending huge bucks on the name. Good luck beating those odds. |

I may be misinformed, but as I understand it, Ad Grants work kinda meh if you're not close to a large metro area. We're off in the boonies. I periodically have to research and tweak our keywords to keep from falling off in search results. Google Analytics helps a bit with that. That's my project for later this week. |
