The Baltimore Streetcar Museum Announces Hiring of Executive Director Matthew W Nawn

The Baltimore Streetcar Museum (BSM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation, is excited to announce the selection of its first-ever full-time Executive Director - Matthew W. Nawn - to help grow and sustain the organization’s future as a unique and important cultural institution in downtown Baltimore preserving and interpreting the wonderful history of streetcars, street railways and transit in Baltimore and beyond. Matt will be starting in this new role in the Spring of 2025.

Matt brings 25 years of incredible experience leading people, projects, and programs as well as a passion for the mission of BSM to this new role. In his career, Matt has led a variety of projects and organizations in the public sector, as well as having worked as a private consultant, college educator, and leader of several non-profit organizations. Most recently, Matt served in a leadership role at the Federal Transit Administration as the Chief of Technical Services, managing the oversight of the nation’s largest and most challenging public transportation projects and a team of specialized staff and contractors. Matt holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Villanova University and The New Jersey Institute of Technology, respectively, is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and is a certified Project Management Professional. He is also a long-time volunteer at BSM and brings a passion to transit that started in his youth growing up in Upper Darby, PA - a stone’s throw from the Red Arrow lines, 69th Street Station and the trolleys of West Philadelphia where his passion for transit was inspired from his youth.
Anyone who has interacted with Matt can attest to his professionalism, his organization, thoughtfulness, problem-solving skills, excellent management capabilities and his honesty, integrity and decency. BSM could not be more thrilled to have him at the helm of our beloved museum to guide it into a successful future.

BSM looks forward to Matt’s leadership and professional guidance as our organization continues to further develop our new campus plan centered around the acquisition and restoration of the historic former Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad roundhouse, together with his help to further grow and develop of our volunteer base, connection of BSM to resources at the city, state and federal level, and to ensure strategic growth of our financial resources and capabilities as our new “ambassador.” Welcome aboard Matt!
