Post subject: Steam in Movies- Dorris Day? (!)
PostPosted: Fri Jan 24, 2003 7:40 am

Monday evening (I think), I caught part of a movie on TCM starring (of all people) Jack Lemmon and Dorris Day, with Mr. Lemmon spending much of the time hand bombing a coal-burning steam locomotive (!). The movie was set in New England, and the engine appeared to be a 2-8-2 (maybe a light USRA Mike). I just looked up the movie on the Internet Movie Database and it's called "It Happened to Jane" and was released in 1959. It looked pretty hokey, but there was a lot of steam action in the 15-20 minutes I watched.

Anybody know anything about the movie, the locomotive, or the railway in the movie?

Good Steaming,
Hugh Odom

Hugh,
Please refer back to the 1/20/03 thread about "It Happened to Jane" . The posts by Howard P. should answer your questions. As a long time member of the RMNE the film is near and dear to our hearts. Earlier this year we conducted a open air showing of the film with an old 16mm print at Thomaston Station.

Hal,

Thanks for the pointer. I guess I slept through that whole thread as I normally check RPYN daily.
