I thought these photos of brand new track on the Arkansas & Western's extension from Waldron, Arkansas to Forester, Arkansas were interesting. The photos were part of progress reports on the line's construction submitted to the Kansas City Southern head office in Kansas City in 1929 and 1930. The line to Forester lasted until about 1954 when the sawmill that was its reason for existing closed.

You can drive large parts of the extension from Waldron to Forester using Tram Road (the one sign is hard to find). It had an interesting story with guaranteed business from the logging operation building at Forester. A bit of the sawmill and the log pond remain, with some historical signs and information posted.

I cover this line in my book on the KCS Heavener Subdivision since the Waldron Branch was assigned to it. I also have a bit about Forester in my DeQueen & Eastern book since Dierks Lumber acquired the Forester operation towards the end of its existence.
