Post subject:  T.R.A.I.N. IN TEXAS

Found an entry in the T.R.A.I.N. website for someone/group/company called "CHEROKEE COUNTY AND RUSK NARROW GUAGE". Any info out there? Thks.

That is/was the name of a short stretch of old Cotton Belt reguaged to 24" by the owner of some South African narrow guage equipment. One rail was moved over for maybe a mile some ten or so years ago. In light of the current hostile regulatory environment efforts have been concentrated at his private railway.

It would have been nice to have seen a NG16 class 2-6-2+2-6-2 Garrett running for the public in East Texas.

What happened to the equipment and its owner, if anything??

The reguaged track is still there at Rusk; the equipment is at his ranch near Houston.

What hostile regulatory environment?? Zoning??
Insurance?? Or What??
