Does anyone have or know of pre 1965 photos of ex-Southern locomotive 630 that I can use in a presentation I am working on? OK to email me off the board. Chattanooga's other website mail@steamvalley.com |

John an excellent photo of 630 appears on page 31 of the book Southern Railway's Murphy Branch. The train is eastbound at Canton and the 630 is the lead engine of a doubleheader with 573 trailing. It is dated November 1938. I have seen pictures of her on the ET&WNC but will have to do some searching to find them. jhbohon@yahoo.com |

Shots of it on the ET&WNC are common - I've got some here from a couple of guys, in both color and black and white. If you want it on the Southern (pre-1952), the only photo I've seen is Walter Thrall's shot of it in Asheville in 1938 that appeared in Shelby Lowe's book. SRHA or Frank Ardrey may have one of those negatives. And Dale Roberts has quite a collection of Asheville engine pictures, so he probably has one. Send me an email if you want shots of "207." JAC |

If this doesn't work (peculiar website), look up The Virtual Railroad on Yahoo, then click Steam Locomotives, United States and Southern, in that order. Is this the 1938 photo referred to? > Shots of it on the ET&WNC are common - > I've got some here from a couple of guys, in > both color and black and white. > If you want it on the Southern (pre-1952), > the only photo I've seen is Walter Thrall's > shot of it in Asheville in 1938 that > appeared in Shelby Lowe's book. Thanks John, I need your email addy, if I can get permission from the copyright holder of the photos you mentioned. Would be nice to have one from ET&WNC and one from old Southern but I'll make do with what is available. JWC Chattanooga's other website mail@steamvalley.com |
