What does Sperry charge per mile for detection?
What are the wages for Sperry employees?

When I was on the Sperry Car back in 1974 the employees were paid very low wages of only $2.45 to $2.60 per hour. Sperry charged RR's $19.30 per mile.

Just curious.

Don't know the current pay, but when I went to work for them in 1994 they were starting new hires at about $6.50 IIRC. We got another $75 or so a week as a meals allowance. The meals check was nice but a pain, because they couldn't direct deposit it like they could for your regular pay. I went ballistic one day in a bank in VA that wouldn't deposit my meals check. It was the same bank company I used at the time (I've since switched, and no I won't name the bank). They told me that because my account was in South Carolina and their branch was in Virginia, I could make withdrawals but not deposits. Naturally they wouldn't just cash the check, either. I let them know what kind of mixed-up, ass-backwards kind of BS I thought THAT was and they agreed to deposit the check.

Anyway, SRS #123 was here in town about a month ago. It was the first of the two cars I worked on, the other being the 118 which is now out of service. I spoke with the crew. I didn't ask about the pay but my impression was that it's just as pitiful now as it was in 1994.

I've got a freind who still works for Sperry, mostly on the car they have in Europe. Next time he's home (probably won't be until summer) I'll ask him what they're paying these days.
