Late 1980's? 1988 I think. It was still in the Bradshaw era. Paul Stuhr Museum pfdx@aol.com |

1989. It pretty much levelled the original roundhouse. The back walls of the southernmost 3 bays and the former southern exterior wall (now an interior wall) were incorporated into the otherwise new structure which stands there now. eledbetter@rypn.org |

The raiiroad picked up the pieces and rebuilt several of the K-28's and K-36's that were damaged. 498 was not been operational and has not been in use since former D&RGW regular freight trains before 1968. DAle Brown dwbrown1@fuse.net |

D&S had three locomotives rebuilt and running regular trips by June '89 and a fourth making a break-in run. The roundhouse had outside walls standing....nothing else. The railroad made it through 1989 with flying colors compared to 2002 when it was forest fires (not roundhouse fires) which dealt the blow. sfreer@tvrail.com |

The work was nearly done on all the exterior work. Some of the damaged tenders had new tanks built. It had made a lot of sceptical railfans eat their words. Many thought the D&S would not be able to recover so quickly. This was also before the Internet had become a source for immediate information. The recent problems with D&S and C&TS has information on every detail posted before the people on the ground even know! Dale Brown dwbrown1@fuse.net |
