I don't think these are operable yet, though another one is. A hedge against forest fire problems. http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?2003020110423326144.jpg:bydate::bydate%3A10 ryarger@rypn.org |

Yes, they came straight from Kovalchick Salvage, indeed, straight out of the EBT machine shop at Rockhill Furnace. All from the same batch of steel mill engines Joe K. picked up at some point; all sisters to EBT's M-7. eledbetter@rypn.org |

Any progress/news on the EBTs attempts to mollify the FRA for 2003? |

Better idea. Convert the existing D&S engines to oil. |

> Any progress/news on the EBTs attempts to > mollify the FRA for 2003? During 2002 14 operated under a one-year wavier while 15 was torn down and prepped for inspection, ultrasound, and calculation of a new FOrm 4. Last I heard the RR fully expected to have 15 up and running under the new rules in June, with 14 to go through the same process afterwards. Expect only 15 to operate in 2003 and the 14 and 15 to be the two servicable engines for the forseeable future (which is never very far when it comes to EBT). eledbetter@rypn.org |

Oil burners can set fires too. So can diesels for that matter. Passengers with cigarettes - so many options out there. I can't see the practicality in the expense of converting not only the locomotives but the entire fuel infrastructure for something that won't eliminate just one of the potential causes. Now if we put up overhead wire and bring back those Aspen trolleys.......... Dave |

While oil engines may also set fires, the risk is greatly reduced. And what you have to look at is additional maintenance costs that will be eliminated and how much will be saved if the Forest Service or county does shut down the railroad again over fire concerns. I am surprised this did not happen years ago. |
