Post subject:  New Management at Texas State RR
I learned that Curtis Pruett and Blair Lavelle at Texas State RR retired last summer. Does anyone know who's the new park superintendent and master mechanic at TSR?

Also, is the ex-AT&SF 4-6-2 No. 500 still operable? It seems as though the engine has not run in recent years.

For being a major steam operation, you never hear much about them in the press or on the net.

Around Sept/Oct. #500 did make runs, not sure about the new folks.

I rode 500 the last Sunday in October after ARM and she put on a great show. Plans call for her to get an entirely new boiler this year. She should be around for say, oh, another 100 years!

Robert Crossman,formerly of Austin and Texas Central,now has Curtis' job at Texas State Railroad. It was a homecoming for Robert as he and I both worked there while we were in college.
The 500 is indeed getting a new boiler next year,as well as 201.

In visiting with the TSR people at the Houston RR show, I was told that because 500 and 201 are both dismantled in the shop and getting new boilers, the work that is necessary on 400, will have to be postponed until one of the others is out of the shop. TSR has leased a diesel to pull one of the two trains this summer, so if you are visiting, call ahead to see which train (Rusk or Palestine) will have #300 on the day you want to ride. Does anyone know the whereabouts of SP 1744 which went to New Orleans a couple of years ago after rebuilding at Ft. Worth and Western? Maybe the state of Texas would lease it for the summer, if we could find it?

The 1744 is still resting in New Orleans at last report. She would be a good engine for TSR,but I believe the lease might be expensive since they spent $ 1 millinon on her overhaul........
