Post subject: B&O Museum roof collapse?

There's a thread going on Trainorders.com that talks about part of the roof of the B&O Museum collapsing (probably due to snow is my guess). Anyone have more details? Alexander D. Mitchell?

How did the EBT's Rockhill Shops roof fare through the storm? I know it's always a concern with a big snow fall.

Heading out now. Mind you, the snow is two feet deep and unplowed. Stay tuned.

Official reports are sketchy. I am hearing rumors that things are getting worse as more falls.

I am sickened. This is about as tragic an event as our fraternity could endure short of loss of life.

My thoughts are with our friends in Baltimore.

Now is the test. Can our community lobby for enough funds that Baltimore, Rockhill Furnace and Chama all have futures?

Very sad news...

Amen, Rob.

From the NBC affiliate web site in Baltimore:

Almost an entire side of the B&O Railroad Museum's roof caved in under the weight of the snow last night.

The kind of news to make Monday even worse. jim

Oh, that is very tragic news. This is where the museum diasaster prepardedness plan kicks into action. I have faith that Courtney, Shawn and crew will do their best to get matters under control. If there is anything our institution can do to help, please let us know. We are only 80 miles away and can lend a hand once roads are clear.

WJZ TV in Baltimore has just shown video showing half the roof, (180 degrees), has collapsed. No information at this point as to what has been damaged or destroyed inside but fortunately, there are no reports of any injuries.

It is a double whammy as the task of organizing the Fair of the Iron Horse was in itself more than adequate work for the staff. No doubt this event will be rethought in the next few days......

Time to stop moaning and get to work on picking up the pieces. I would be proud to help out if I can.

As of 4:00pm this afternoon, all of the roofs of East Broad Top buildings located in Rockhill Furnace were still standing. We have had anywhere from 20" to 36" of snow and there is at least 15" to 20" of snow on most of the roofs at this time. The staff and management all pray that the roofs will endure this and hopefully all will remain intact.

We at the East Broad Top extend our heartfelt sorrow to our friends at the B & O Museum and will wait for details on where to send donations.

As of Monday evening, there's no obvious damage. A bit more snow is still possible through the night though. Nobody breath...

Ditto. PLEASE let me know where I can help. I, too, would consider it an honor. I have had some experience with water-related damage in the past
(nothing of this size obviously), so if you need another curator there consider me in. Heck, if you need just a strong back count me in!
