Looking for a photo of Union Pacific 2-8-0 No. 428 currently undergoing restoration at the IRM in Union, IL to illustrate the record for this locomotive on our website. Any help would be appreciated.

Doug,

If you're looking for pictures of the engine in service, follow the link and then type "UP 428" into the search box.

Hope This Helps, Taylor

Otto Perry took over a dozen photos while chasing this engine's last run, on Oct. 15, 1958. Others chased it also, but the Perry photos are easily available on-line. Photo below is at Loup City, Nebraska.

Doug,

You might also want to check out the book 'Union Pacific Steam in Color' (An Eastern District Pictorial by Lloyd E. Stagner)published by Morning Sun Books,Inc. in 1995. This book features two nice color photos of the 428, taken in October of 1958, on pages 12 and 13.

I hope this helps.
