Post subject: Introducing CNR No. 7312

Strasburg Rail Road deserves a thousand thank you's for making a personal dream of mine come true--No. 31 now sports a replica Canadian National Railways number plate from her 1950s service days and will soon bear her last CNR number, No. 7312. Although devoid of her classification lights due to the recent theft, she now appears faithful to her in-service days. Her tender will remain lettered "Strasburg" though admittedly I yearn for the classy CNR crooked "square"-type herald. I don't have a digital image to share, however, she will be on the head-end of this weekend's schedule, if you wish to see the results for yourself.

Long live Canadian steam.

No. 31 also ably headed up a snowplow extra on Tuesday afternoon, clearing the Strasburg of 20+" of snow. It was reminiscent of the 1964 blizzard that saw three- to four-foot high drifts bury the line in several places.

I was over at the Strasburg RR today to see the CNR #7312 It will seem strange not seeing 31 on the engine but I am glad that I have the opportunity to see her and the others 475 90 and 89 run being I am only 10-15 minutes away.

Will this number change be permanent or just for this season?

My understanding is that it is permanent.

How about the weekend of March 1st? I wasn't able to get up there last weekend.

Kurt, have you thought of doing a piece on how SRC's plow and RRMPa's have crossed paths over the years?

Actually, yes...but in a different form. I am scripting a history of the Strasburg Rail Road exhibition (which will include images of SRC plowing snow) which will open at RRMPA on April 26. It will feature the entire history of the SRC from 1832 forward to the present. It will feature photographs, artifacts, artwork and remembrances of former and present employees, visitors and dignitaries. It has been a ton of fun to pull together and I think you'll enjoy it immensely. The only problem was not being able to stuff and mount No. 90 in the upstairs gallery but, oh, well you can't have it all:)
