A while back, I think Bob Yarger wanted to know the condition of the K&ITRR roundhouse in Louisville, Kentucky. I saw it tonight. It appears to be about 8 stalls, 4 of wich are used for locomotive servicing. From old photos I have seen of the building, it appears to be about 1/3 of the original building is left. It still has an operational turntable, I am not sure of the lenght. However, since the Southern, Monon, B&O, and the C&O didn't run large locomotives into Louisville on a regular basis, I imagine it is just a 90 footer.

David, the C&O didn't use the K&IT. They used the L&JBRR (NYC) Preston St Roundhouse. This was possibly the most attractive roundhouse in Louisvile. I don't know if the C&O's 4-8-2's would fit on it's table, though.

Yeah, I have seen photos in local archives that show the early C&O 4-8-2s in Louisville. However, I noticed that they all have short 2 axel trucked vandy tenders. I imagine that was to fit on the turntable. I think the roundhouse is on the National Register, one of Louisville's hidden railroad treasures.
