EMD F-unit front number plates

These would be the ones with reflecting beads that are mounted on the nose door.

When RDG FP-7's 902-903 were renumbered under ConRail, these plates were removed. Now the Chapters (and RCTHS I presume for 900) want to replace them. Is there a source for either the plates complete, or the components, particularly the reflectorised beads.

We did something--I cannot recall now what-- to replicate this on SR 6133 when she was redone in 1990 to her 1950 paint scheme. I'll see if I can find the file on the repaint, look up the painter (he's a casket painter nearby) or, if all else, fails, go by and look Saturday.

Incidentally, 6133 is the recipient of some new T-21 money to do a good top deck overhaul on her... engine work, wiring work, etc. and probably a fresh coat of SR green. So she should be with us for a good long while. Naturally, donations are needed to complete the match but the amount of the match is not too large--about $20k. Jim

The reflectorized beads used to make up the nose number plates are the same material as applied to "Cat-Eye" style crossing protection signs. Contact me off this list and I may have a source.

Found this site, but I have not had time to research the size required and yes the RCT&HS needs them for the 900, maybe we could place one order together.

I found the same site. They DO look promising. We need templates for the number style and materials for the plate.

I will check into this further on Saturday,there may be some applicable drawings in the archives. I believe the reflectors where mounted in some sort of a sheetmetal box, which in turn was fastened to the nose door. The lettering style appears to be the same as what was in the numberboards. The 900 lost it's number board while still on the Reading.
