 Post subject: Carrizo Gorge Railway
PostPosted: Wed Feb 26, 2003 11:15 pm

I am an employee of the Carrizo Gorge Railway, (CZRY) and am posting to as many sites of the nature of railroading/hobby/railfanning as I can to send out this message:

CZRY is the contract operator of this entire line,to include the Mexican segment,(Operating under a different name) and we are running trains on nearly all of it. It is NOT abandoned. Even in the Cariso Gorge! We are running construction/repair/work trains day and night in the Cariso Gorge, repairing any and all damage. We are currently nearly through tunnel #8, which is 2,200 feet long.

This is the news that we need your help to get out to the community that comes to this and other sites like this. For people interested in this railroad, we suggest that you read Robert Hanft's book entitled The Impossible Railroad, now in its 3rd edition. It is available from www.amazon.com , just to name one source. It has maps, photos and statistics.

The problem:

Many people who are railfans, hikers/adventurers are under the impression that this entire railroad is abandoned, and therefore available for their recreational enjoyment. THIS IS NOT TRUE!

We have had several near misses between people hiking along the right of way,on our bridges, in our tunnels, people on bicycles, and people just wandering around.

This is an active railroad, and people should please, stay off the property, because when they go up against a train or other rail equipment, they lose, every time. We do not want to see anyone hurt or killed because of this. There have been some very close calls. Who knows what might be next? Please, let's do the safe thing, and stay off the property. We have signs posted, we have the CZRY Railway Police patroling, and they will cite anyone they see on the property for their own safety.

As I say, we are the Carrizo Gorge Railway Company, Inc. Reporting mark: CZRY. Our telephone number is (619) 940-1943. The General manager is Mr. Geoffrey T. Scheuerman. His email address is Gscheu01@aol.com. We would much rather answer questions by this method, than trackside, because you cannot get hurt using this method.

Or, you may email me at davesugi@cox.net

Thanks for your co-operation.

Cheers!
