Post subject:  Taiwan deaths

While the philosophical struggle over the B&O Museum and Fair of the Iron Horse continues, we could be facing a crisis such as these deaths in Taiwan. Isn't this the logging line where the well-known 30-inch gauge Ali-Shan Shays operated?

Post subject:  "Dangerous switchbacks???"

Twice in the CNN report, the word "dangerous" was used, describing the many-curved line, and the use of switchbacks. So just what makes a switchback "dangerous" or curvy track "dangerous"??? Don't you just love reporters talking about stuff they don't know anything about??

They are in business to round up a captive audience for their advertisers. Sensationalizing a story is one way to help do that. OTOH they could also be just repeating what someone - perhaps someone to whom English was not their first language - said.

Sadly, based on what I've seen on the History Channel and elswhere - compared to trained talking heads, "experts" often end up sounding even MORE goofy.
