I note on the Flimsies piece below, that beside the recent fire damage to the L&M depot (in Ohio), it mentions that some "railroad garages" that used to house engines have been taken down. If I recall, there was still a two-stall stone enginehouse left from the Lakeside & Marblehead, and I presume this is the "garage" they speak of. Has it been razed? Is the L&M track gone? When was it abandoned? Didn't L&M have some connection with a Shay-powered narrow gauge quarry railroad? Were the Shays also housed in that enginehouse?

Bob,
I was in Marblehead about two years ago, and the two stall engine house was gone at that time. The large engine house still stood across the street on the property of the Lafarge Corporation, and at that time there were still doors on the building, even on the narrow gauge stalls!
I beleave that the mainline was torn up around 1997.

A very complete and well written book on the subject is the Lakeside and Marblehead Railroad by Dean K. Fick, ISBN 0-9658624-1-0. If you want to shed a tear for what "we" looked at, chronicled, and let disappear I highly recommend it.
