The Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society has the opportunity of obtaining the car body of Denver Tramways #376. The carbody has been used as a work shop and storage shed here in town for the last 55 years. We are now in the process of determining the feasibility of restoring it to operating condition. To accomplish this we would need to find a pair of standard gauge Brill 39E trucks with motors as well as controllers, a DH 16 compressor and other components. The car may well have been 42". Will you be looking for standard gauge trucks? In order to operate on your present tracks, you may have to change the gauge.

I think the Fort Edmonton Historical Park trolley folks have made that truck from scratch, if you can't find one otherwise.

A Tramways car would have been 42" gauge? Be that as it may, your line is 56.5" gauge as I recall. Edmonton Radial Rwy made some reproduction Brill trucks, I believe 27G's. See them at http://www.edmonton-radial-railway.ab.ca/

You should consider joining the Association of Railway Museums. They have an active parts committee that does just what you're thinking of, although 39E's with motors and controllers may be hard to find. Try them at http://www.railwaymuseums.org/

Much recent work has been done in replicating hardware that isn't common anymore. Solid State controllers in old looking boxes, industrial DC motors adapted for nose hanging, etc. get in touch with Andy Nold and John Smatlak for an overview.

Thanks for the plug, Dave. We have one spare 39E, and it was our intent to copy it to put under the longer, 13-window Stone & Webster that we have. However, there are several other projects ahead of that which are taking all my time and resources. But, perhaps we can get together everyone who needs a set of 39E's and do it as a group effort. Are there still any of these available in Japan?
