Last GE U-Boat preserved (Conrail 2798)

LAST U-BOAT BUILT IS NOW PRESERVED: Railroad Museum of New England has acquired ex-Providence & Worcester GE U23B #2203 from a New York State equipment dealer. The unit was built in 1977 as Conrail 2798, the last U-series locomotive built by General Electric. 2203 will be moved to RMNEÂ’s Naugatuck Railroad at Waterville, CT, and is expected to be in regular service on the Naugatuck passenger train this season. Well, its official: I must be getting older.!Something that was built after this railfan's 1975 birthdate has been preserved. Anyway, I'm glad to see its preserved; a real heads-up move on a locomotive that could have been easily overlooked I'm sure. Kudos to those involved!

I felt the same way in 1985, when we got CR 2685 (aka New Haven 2525, the last loco delivered to the NH, Nov. 1965)!!!

Yes, it's pretty easy to get a sense of just how old you are in this biz.........

Thanks for your comments. This one is the brainchild of one of our newer members, Andy Kromer. He's a former GE field service rep and a U-boat fancier, and is doing a great job managing our diesel loco dept. And, I think his "blt date" is one year before CR 2798!!
