The B&O Museum has released its first comprehensive list of artifacts affected by the disaster. Being on the list means an artifact was in the damaged area of the roundhouse and subject to the action of the collapse. The list does not assess or grade the degree of damage to any of the artifacts. It is possible that as debris is removed and artifacts are recovered, some may prove to have been undamaged despite being in the affected area. You can view the list at the link below. I especially like the "B&O tea bag", rated as "rare".......... In the wake of the big locos and fire engine, we tend to lose sight of the smaller stuff, and the list's an interesting reminder how comprehensive railroad museums actually are. One quick note: The list can give the implication that nothing has been removed from the roundhouse but a couple pieces of silverware and a bridge model. Actually, the list only details what was under the fallen roof; a few artifacts from the other tracks have been observed being trucked out of the roundhouse to secure storage. Courtney Wilson is scheduled to speak at a free public forum at noon today at the Johns Hopkins University Downtown Center, as the opening of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation's spring lecture series on urban design. Naturally, the focus will be on the roof and its repairs. lner4472@bcpl.net |
