Does anyone know if the Canadian Locomotive Company of Kingston, Ontario equipped their finished locomotives with circular smokebox number plates? If so, how were they so marked? Just curious.

Bell the only clc builders plates i remember seening all looked like the lima plates. they may have used round ones way back when. btw i was in the clc works a few years before it closed. if is now a new high rise condo. near the pump house muse. like baldwin they were on the water and could load boats from there works. does anyone else remember this plant? bb

Bob; No I don't remember the plant, but, the errecting floor still exists - it is an overgrown park right now.

There is a great CLC book produced called "Constructed in Kingston" with maps, history of every locomotive built (including 1 heisler, under license!!!). There are (of course) some errors, but there are errata sheets.

Unfortunately, I can't answer the original question, as the book is not at hand, but I do seem to remember the diamond plates as well.

I have the book - Constructed in Kingston - it is excellent for anyone interested in the CLC. It is a wealth of information. I went through my copy and cannot find any photos of a round number plate with the builder's name cast around the rim. There very well may have been, but there are few front end photos in the book. I have collected plates since 1963 and have never seen one. I have two examples of Montreal round front number plates in my collection. I also have a number of CLC diamond builder's plates from both steam and diesel in my collection. Wish that I could be of more help.
