Post subject: | Do you want to buy small rail? |
The Aberdeen and Rockfish Railroad is planning to relay some small rail in our mainline with heavier rail this year. We are exploring our options for disposal of the old rail. One option is selling it to museums and tourist railroads to be used as display or yard tracks. It is currently handling 270,000 pound cars with a 25 MPH speed limit and could be used as change out rail if you happen to have it in your railroad now. We will have three different rail sections available, 75AS drilled 4"x5", 75 Dudley drilled 3"x6", and a small quantity of 80AS drilled 2"x7". It is mostly 33 foot lengths with an unknown quantity of shorts. We will probably have enough joint bars for both 75 pound sections but may not be able to supply them for the 80 pound rail. Quite a few of the bars currently in the track are quarter cracked and will have to be replaced with others on hand. The rail is mostly a good number 2 relay quality possibly with some number 1 mixed in. The exact quantities are unknown at this time but we hope to have 100 tons plus. We expect to price this rail in the $125.00 to $150.00 per ton range and the bars between $5.00 and $8.00 per pair FOB the job site in eastern North Carolina. We will load the rail but the buyer would be responsible for transportation costs. I am posting this hoping to determine if this is a viable alternative. We would rather not scrap the rail if someone can reuse it. If enough potential buyers are found it will have an effect on the way we clean up the job site and our cost. If you think your organization would have a serious interest in buying this rail please contact me here or directly using my address above. The company is not willing to donate any of this material at this time so please do not consider that an option. Thank you in advance for your interest. John Bohon jhbohon@yahoo.com |
