Old diesels parked by Roanoke shops. I'm guessing these are stored for the Virginia Museum of Transportation?

Yup, that would be them. The museum just finished building a shed to cover most of the equipment, and everything in that image should be under cover now, except for the RF&P box, which was at one point used for tool/part storage. I was doing some volunteer work there back in the mid 90's, and the weather has taken its toll already :-( The top of the RS-3 was prepped and painted in 98, and we did the Nickel Plate Geep as well. We had just finished prepping 1776 for paint when I left the museum, which I haven't been back to since probably 99, for various reasons including lack of museum support for restoration in general and in part because I had just graduated from VT and needed to find a job other than volunteer work on old trains every weekend :-)

BTW: The N&W 1218 will be "unveiled" in at VMT on June 14th. (www.vmt.org)
