Sometime last year there was discussion about a Rock Island motorcar that was rescued from life as a laundromat. Anyone know what became of that project? Are there any photos of the rescue or any restoration progress?

Sorry, I don't have photos, but the carbody is at Fairbury, Nebraska, part of the depot museum project there. It was used as a depot in a nearby town after the wooden depot there burned, killing the agent. Use as a laundromat came later.

There was an article in the Omaha World Herald some time ago. There was a photo in that article. At the time, UP donated a set of trucks for it--they appeared to be regular friction bearing freight trucks, which are better than nothing. I'm not sure what Fairbury has planned for the car or how much they plan to rehabilitate it. I think there may be a photo in Reisdorf's Ghost Railroads of Nebraska when it was still a laundromat.

God Bless,
