I caught the later half of the series last night on PBS. I recognized several scenes taken on the SVRy. One scene showed #98. I am not familiar with this loco, where is she located?

The scenes showing end of rail, tools and fires (depicting the Chinese work stopage on the Central Pacific) were taken across Huckleberry Loop Rd. from the McEwen Depot, facing East. Turns out this is the direction we will be extending, hopefully soon. A motion scene taken from the cab steps looking forward was on #19. I believe a scene taken on the front pilot was taken on #19 as well, on her way to Sumpter.

Finally, the scenes showing a dredging ditch, a distant view of the train moving across the dredge fields and a brief scene through Cottonwood trees of a train were all taken in the 2001 season at SVRy by a group on contract to Bill Moyer Productions.

I am not an Historian, but I have been told, Chinese did work on the SVRy in the early days.

Using Chinese labor was not uncommon at that time. Historical accounts show that the Alabama and Chattanooga Railroad (later Alabama Great Southern Railway) used Chinese gangs during the latter construction of the line from Chattanooga to Meridian, Mississippi in the late 1860s.
