I've finally realized I need to document my collection of railroad related items (paper, books, hardware etc.) in some organized, retrievable way. I want to utilize digital photos of these items as well.
My question is, what software is best suited for this purpose? I have seen two offered for sale on Ebay - KeeperPro and 321Collect. Anyone have experience with either of these? Are there others?

I saw a demonstration of "History Database" at one of the ARM Conventions (Bay Area?). They have a web page at http://www.history.la.ca.us so hopefully it is still supported. I don't recall them mentioning it if handles digital media.

The archives database we use here is a home grown one written in Microsoft Access; after I saw the History Database presentation I realized our database was lacking important fields, so I added a number of fields and back filled the info in previously entered records as best we could.

Plain old Microsoft Access will handle your needs, it just isn't "customized" for rail use.

We are using Past Perfect software at National Capital Trolley Museum. The program is very comprehensive and includes forms for deed of gift and acknowledgements to the donor, as well as standard cataloging.

This site will give you the opportunity to download a free personal items inventory database called My Stuff. It allows pricing, photos of the item, etc. It's quite complete, totally simple to use, and not targeted at any particular category. You should be able to built a database of your property quite easily.
