In my town there is an old C-40-3 class caboose, the 1167, on display at the museum. There is some interest in cleaning the car up, just to make it more presentable. It's in pretty good shape, and the paint is in fair condition, but pretty oxodized. I don't think repainting is an option right now, so does anybody have some suggestions for sprucing it up? I was thinking of a good scrubbing, and maybe waxing it or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Taylor thrush@smt-net.com |

You might want to try rubbing out a small section to take the oxidized layer off and see if anything is left. If there is enough depth left this should bring the color back and you then can wax it. lamontdc@adelphia.net |

We've sometimes been able to use wall washing compound to bring back oxidized paint until we can repaint an item. Suggest testing a small panel and see if it helps first. Museum of Transportation rdgoldfede@aol.com |
