GW 51 will move to Mead tomorrow (April 4) around 9am. Train will also include 4 passenger cars owned by the same party as #51 (John Birmingham, who has owned 51 since 1963, he bought it straight from the GW). For those who want photos of this interesting train, I will be taking the tarp off of 51 before the move. Once in Mead, 51 will be offloaded by crane onto some newly built track inside the Boulder Scientific Co. plant. (after spending all last weekend building the track, I have a new respect for those who did if for a living before machines!) Plans are to return 51 to operating condition and find a use for it in Colorado. Jason Midyette > Great Western 2-8-0 No. 51 has returned home > to Loveland, CO. Photos below. amjm@indra.com |

Plans > are to return 51 to operating condition and > find a use for it in Colorado. Jason: Any plans of running 51 on the Great Western Ry? I heard sometime ago that 51 ran briefly in excursion service there in the early 80's but was effectively shut down due to unfriendly NIMBY's complaining about smoke and noise. Just curious. GW 2-10-0 90 is a favorite, and I literally grew up in the shadows of GW 2-8-0 60 in NJ. K.R. Bell |
