From what I can tell, the whole 35km route of this Tasmanian railway has been relaid and is operating, with two of its former rack engines that have been rebuilt after long years on display. It appears to be an adhesion railway on the more level stretches and Abt rack on the steeper parts. The line was abandoned in 1963 and all the bridges had to be rebuilt or replaced. This is a major accomplishment. Seeing this. perhaps those people in Nevada can get their V&T back after all! http://www.queenstowntasmania.com/Home_Page.php ryarger@rypn.org |
