I know somebody asked before, but I found out today that the National Archives has the bulk of the ICC archives, especially case files. I will be doing some digging. If anyone is interested I will provide more information as I find out. david.wilkins@inisightbb.com |

Check out this useful Q&A link on the railroad records holdings of the National Archives. The bulk of the ICC Records consists of the Valuation Records from the WWI era and the Accident Investigation Reports from 1911-1963. David Pfeiffer is the Archivist of the railroad records. A panel discussion on railroad archives in the mid-Atlantic region is being hosted by the National Archives in College Park, MD as part of the NRHS Convention this July; I will be serving as a panelist, as well as others from the railway museum community. It will be a good "behind the scenes" introduction to historic railroad records archives and records management to those who wish to learn more about the subject. K.R. Dave himself is an excellent resource. I learned by my second visit there not to tell him what records I wanted [i.e.1957 contested abndonments]but to tell him the actual problem [i.e. dispostition of the Podunk Western]. He often knows just which book or box to go to and where there is related material that you might not find with a conventional search. wrallenassoc@earthlink.net |
