An outbound TERy car failed to stop at Kirkland siding (just north of Dallas) to wait for the inbound commutor car, causing a serious head-on collision. 32 people were injured and taken to local hospitals. The front end of each car was badly damaged, and the front truck of each car was derailed. Also, the motorman of each train was injured.

The weather was clear at the time of the accident, which occurred about 7:42 a.m.

This was April 10, 1948 - 55 years ago today. This crash was the deathnail in the coffin of the Texas Electric Railway. Full ICC report is linked below, click on 1948 and then Texas Electric.

Thanks to John Myers for the reminder.
