Did General Dynamics aircraft plant [now Lockheed], located at the former Carswell Air Force Base [now Navy Ft. Worth Joint Reserve Base] Fort Worth, Texas, ever have its own plant switcher? For that matter, did Carswell AFB itself have a diesel locmotive of its own? If so to either, what happened to them? Trinity Valley Railroad Heritage Association tvrha@star-telegram.com |
GD had it's own shop switcher, or more accurately, the Air Force did - it was Air Force Plant 4, I worked there for several years, a couple years in shipping/recieving where I could see the thing from my desk, it was a GE 44 tonner painted dark blue in AF livery. Never saw it move. Don't what became of it, MOP (UP?) ripped up the tracks to the plant (and Carswell) some years ago.
Don't know about Carswell, but I kinda doubt it, MoPac ran a string of 8-10 tank cars full of jet fuel in there with their own SW every couple days. B-52's are evidently pretty thirsty critters, and they kept at least two in the air at all times.
|
