Post subject:	Bangor & Aroostook X1215 PIC
This photo was posted recently to photos.nerail.org , by photographer R. Michael White, on April 12, 2003. Is this car still owned by the BAR/ Montreal Maine and Atlantic? Does anybody have plans in the works to preserve it? From this photo is looks to be in fair condition, however, its windows and roof definately needs to be tarped. I know Strasburg needs another car body like they need another hole in their heads, but....... Conway? Valley RR? Green Mountain? Heck, anyone in Maine? Could be. But it also could be that to allow an open platform car to safely couple with cars having a standard diaphram they installed a diaphram striker plate at each end. This would tend to prevent the other car's diaphram getting hung up under the platform roof overhang and damaged. Just a thought after a look at the photo. Does anyone know for sure? The car is owned by a local woman who has it up for sale. She also owns a yard full of ex-BAR cabooses built from WW2 troop Pullmans. The owner is quite willing to sell any and all of her equipment, but they must be trucked out, as all the brake piping has been removed. This particular wooden car is in pretty good condition. Don't expect cut-rate prices either. This is a business venture for her, not a rail preservation venture. The cabooses were priced at about $3800, as is/where is. I don't know about the coach. glueck@maine.edu

If you can imagine a 50 foot boxcar with triple bunks, windows, and a porter, painted green and lettered "PULLMAN" it makes a lot more sense. The cars involved were emergency construction in WW II and were designed to make as much use of standard freight car components as possible. They are available for purchase, along with the original trucks and a handful of other vintage BAR boxcars. MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE OWNER BEFORE YOU ARRIVE TO EXAMINE THE CARS. The field is closed to the general public, but the owner is very cooperative about allowing visitors who ASK FIRST!. The wooden coach is located on a siding in downtown Milo, Maine. The new owner lives up that way - I spoke with him, and he needs to have the car gone by this coming December.
