Have lots of relatives in Wisconsin, and as a Cowboys fan Green Bay has always held a certain loathing for me since the Ice Bowl game in the 1967 (which my relatives never let me forget).

But hey, time passes, life goes on, and you get over these things, and since the only team Dallas owns more than the Packers are the Redskins, it's not so bad anymore.

OK, had to take my shots. I visited Green Bay in the early 1990's and found it to be one of the nicest cities I've ever visited. And, the RR Museum was also very pleasant, although suffering the ravages of outdoor exhibits, and I am very happy to see Terry's article on the progress made there.

Surprised to see the GG-1, as it wasn't there when I visited, and I guess I had forgotten they had acquired it. What I really went to see was the Dwight D. Eisenhower. A fascinating locomotive, with a fascinating history (but one of two A-4s on the North American continent). As noted, Dwight used it and the train for personal transportation (with his secretary/mistress on board) during WW2.

Happy to see all this stuff inside in a CLIMATE CONTROLLED environment. Curious to know if the Big Boy got its boiler sheet metal back when it was cosmetically fixed up. Hard to tell from the photo, but from what I can see I'd guess not.

Whatever, it's all good news, and maybe I can get back for another visit in the not too distant future.

Thank you Jeff for the update.

The report on Green Bay was indeed interesting, but I was hoping to get some idea of the size and construction of the new building. Those of us working toward new facilities would be very happy to see what it looks like from outside, as well as knowing how long and wide it is, how high the walls are, etc. If you have such photos and details please send them off line or as another brief, as I suspect others may also be interested.

I think the A4s are the most beautiful engine of all time. I have seen two, Mallard in York and Union of South Africa when she was being rebuilt at the Severn Valley Railway. I am very happy that they were never de-streamlined like the Coronation engines from the LMS, although they did removed the side skirting for ease of maintenance.
