Post subject:  Huge Rock Island photo archive

As anyone who has surfed the huge ABPR photo archives knows, remembering where you saw something can be a problem. Personally, I note things I might be interested in seeing again in a small notebook, by the date it was posted. After a few years, the notebooks are getting full, but at least I could probably find something again with enough time looking at the notebooks.

Photos of the Rock Island Line have now been gathered onto their own webpage, for easier locating. There are about 600 in all, ranging from the early days to the end of the line in 1980. This is a great service.

Post subject:  Sample

A favorite sample, taken at Topeka I think.

Post subject:  Where is this car now?

This passenger car was the Rock Island's display at the 1948-49 Chicago RR Fair. It later was stored in the roundhouse at Herington, Kansas and I believe went to Mid-Continent in the mid-1960s. Where is it today? Any recent photos?

It went from Mid-Continent to Kettle Moraine. It was for sale for quite a while, was even listed on ebay at one time, and I have been told it finally ended up going to the Hoffman Construction Company display in Black River Falls, WI with W&OV #1 (also displayed with it at the 1948-49 Chicago RR Fair) after KM closed.
Last time I saw the car, it had really bad wood rot, and needed a complete exterior re-siding.
