| Post subject: | Historic subway cars broken into, parts stolen |
According to the message board at www.nycsubway.org, a thief or thieves broke into the fleet of historic New York subway cars that are stored at Coney Island Yard and stole a large number of artifacts. Most of these cars are owned by a private museum/excursion organization known as the Railway Preservation Corporation, however some of the cars I believe are still owned by New York City Transit Authority itself and are rotated in and out of the New York Transit Museum. A partial list of items that were stolen from the "museum fleet" of New York subway cars has been posted (link below). They're all railfan items - roll signs, whistles, air gauges. Frank Hicks http://talk.nycsubway.org/cgi-bin/subtalk.cgi?read=489716 fullparallel@wideopenwest.com |
