With much apology we must postpone the grand opening ceremonies of the Sumpter Valley Railroad's Sumpter Depot that had been scheduled for May 23, 2003.

An unusually wet spring in Eastern Oregon has created a situation where we have not been able to do final grading and ditching for utilities. Also, because of budget constraints members will have to paint the exterior, and once again weather has not allowed this to happen. Finally a limited number of very dedicated members have been busy getting #s 3 and 19 running as well as rolling stock.

If you can make it to Sumpter Memorial Day weekend you will probably find members painting or laying track up to Austin St. The Depot will be open and you can come on in and shop or buy tickets, but there woun't be any cake and refreshments (lots of food in Sumpter during the flea market). THE TRAIN WILL BE RUNNING!

Once again my apologies if this distorts your plans for this season. We do hope to have a grand opening later in the season, and you are always welcome to SVRR.
