Recently I recall seeing an ad in a fan magazine advertising the availability of replica Pullman berth keys. Our Museum would like to purchase a few, in the event our berth key for the "Lotus Club" would ever get misplaced. Can anyone provide the contact details? I would be most appreciative. Many thanks! Kurt, You might be amazed at what well-trained locksmiths can reproduce. I've had a locksmith replicate CN coach keys and EMD E8 cab door keys--in my choice of brass or steel. I even had one locksmith able to cut a key to operate an old Adlake railroad switch lock ("But I won't--the railroad is still using those locks, and you don't work for them, so....."). It sounds like a set of those keys would be a welcome and refreshing challenge for the good locksmith, as opposed to fifty house-key duplications each day. lner4472@bcpl.net |

Alexander, Pullman berth keys are not like casement lock keys or even like old sytle lock keys. But rather they are a device that goes into the circular recess on the face of the upper berth and engages the prongs and when turned allows the Porter, etc. to release the berth latches. I too, would like to know who can supply these "keys." Brian Norden > You might be amazed at what well-trained > locksmiths can reproduce. I've made these keys before. Did not try to make them look exact, as they were for our own use. Anyone with a lathe and a mill can make keys that look identical if they want to. I'd personally make buckets of them for the below listed price of $50 each. They don't take THAT long to make! Mark D. > DAWX is a source, $50 each; plus lots of > other "stuff". |
