Great photos from Terrence Harper of The Allagash Alliance Group. The volunteers from the AAG made the trek to the locomotives over several consecutive years, carrying everything from jacks to ballast. In July, 1967, Downeast Magazine, published a 5 page article with ten photos and a map telling the story of the Eagle Lake logging railroads. A logging railroad first called Umbazooksus and Eagle Lake R.R. and later Eagle Lake & West Branch R.R. operated from 1927 to 1930 using the steam locomotives referred to and it had a connection with the Chesuncook & Chamberlain R.R. that hauled supplies but not logs nearby. This article was written by Jim Shaughnessy and called Ghost Train in the Maine Woods. Although this issue of the magazine is no longer available, photocopies of the article can be obtained for $5.00 from the publisher: Downeast Magazine, attn.
