Post subject: Questions for Kurt Bell-Vulcan Iron Works Docs
PostPosted: Sun May 11, 2003 11:42 am

The Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission Website has a collection of "technical engineering" documents for the VIW.

Are these documents complete in the sense that the blue prints exist for an entire locomotive?

Are they now or will they be transferred to digital/electronic format?

Who has the VIW's business records?

The Vulcan Iron Works collection at RRMPA (RR90.29), which is administered by the PHMC, consists of records of the Sales Order Department from c.1920-1940. It also includes approximately 3,000 builder's photographs (c.1880-1949, incomplete), 300 original builder's negatives and approx. 50 cu. ft. of locomotive engineering blueprints (largely incomplete) spanning c.1866-1949. Finding aids for most Vulcan collections are available.

Other preserved Vulcan Iron Works collections may be found at the Hagley Museum and Library in Greenville, Del., and the Wyoming County Genealogical and Historical Society in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Go to the RRMPA Library/Archives web site for direct links to each repository.
