Just for the record, would you happen to know a source for appropriate replacement trucks? (Yes, Bennett, I *know*, you have enough stuff to work on now..... But just in case............ (^_^)

Lets say you get the car for $3k. Another $3k (or a bunch more) to get it ready to move (have to rent crane etc). Running gear ????k. Cost to get it to you, ????K. Rehab of interior/exterior, ???K.

As someone once said, now you are talking real money.

We attempted to purchase this car for the Artrain project four years ago. At that time (and we knew where the trucks were) by the time everyone was paid off it would have been $30,000 for the car, and Artrain lost patience and purchased two ex NYC cars elsewhere to fill out the consist. Think I still know where the wheels are, and know of viable alternatives (ex Zulu car trucks will fit) But still an expensive proposition.

Also, you will net $7,000 (per the ad) to scrap it when pigs fly if the EPA or OSHA is anywhere around while you are scrapping it!

What a sad end.....I wonder how many times it rolled through Ft. Wayne in dressed in Tuscan and Gold on the "Fleet Leader"?

The "someone" was U.S. Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen of Illinois, then Senate Minority Leader, who allegedly said (in the context of the Federal Budget): "a billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money". But did he ever really say it? See link below.
