Some of those photos are of the station at Dempster Street in Skokie, which was originally built by the Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee interurban line. This was along the Skokie Valley Route, which was built in the mid-1920's as a cutoff to avoid the slower Shore Line Route along the north shore.

The link below is to a page on www.chicago-l.org about Dempster Street Station, which is currently undergoing renovation. It was moved a short distance from its original location last year and is now being restored to its original grandeur.

Is this the building that METRA was going to knock down for a parking lot?

Actually, the building was going be knocked down as part of an expansion of the CTA Skokie Swift parking lot and a re-configuration of the parking lot entrances/exits on Dempster St. The station has now been moved approximately 100 feet East of its original location and is being restored (reconstructed would be a better word) as indicated in the photos. This depot, opened in 1926 for the Skokie Valley route of the North Shore Line and the Niles Center "L", has been a cause cèlébre in local architectural preservation circles for many years. .
