Post subject:  Niles CAnyon connection

Looks like the Niles Canyon Ry. now has a connection to the outside world. Should save quite a bit on over-the-road movement of equipment.

My mistake. Switch to the UP is in, but rest of the track is not quite connected yet.

Bob:

We do not have a connection yet but the plans are to have the connection complete by the end of the year. However, remember these are "plans," there is a lot that still needs to come to pass before this project is complete. The Pacific Locomotive Association has waited years and has been forced to jump over hurdle after hurdle and we still are waiting for the work to begin. I sometimes look at all the Ice-T grant projects on this web site with envy as our grant for the connection has been a six year headache for everyone involved. This is the most important project for the long term growth of our museum as we still have a large amount our collection stored outside of Niles Canyon.

We appreciate everyone's interest and I was planning another update soon (just need to put some more photographs together) in regards to our trackwork building east. The track crew has been making amazing progress towards completing rail construction from Hearst to Verona Rd. - the end of our leased right-of-way. The first train to Hearst carried rail for track construction on April 26th - the first train on this part of the line in over 16 years.

When construction starts and work is completed on the Hearst connection RYPN will be one of the first to know.
