Post subject:  First generation EMD diesels available CHEAP

Any one out there want first generation diesels to add to their collection? Omnitrax, in Loveland Colorado is preparing to scrap 40+ units in the next week or so. On the plus side, they are willing to sell them at reasonable prices. We (the Boulder County Railway Historical Society, Boulder Colorado) were able to purchase ex UP GP9 #296 for $5,000 - this is a complete and operational locomotive.

A partial list of what is available (from my memory, may or may not be accurate):

D&RGW GP30's #3026 and 3028, shells for display only, but are moveable on their own wheels.

UP GP9 #211, complete with exception of traction motors, will require some brake and possible wheel work to move.

A string of ex Grand Trunk Western GP7 or GP9's, set up to run long hood forward. Complete and more than likely operational.

SP SD9 (I can't remeber the number) with ice breakers on the cab roof for use on Donner Pass. Mostly complete but not a runner.

Other SP units and a Cotton Belt GP20, in advanced states of decay, plus several ex Santa Fe GP7's that were chop nosed and given new cabs by the AT&SF.

For the freight car lovers, there are a few ex Rock Island gondolas and flat cars along with a B&LE coal hopper (all friction bearings) on the scrap list.

I will be up there tomorrow to see what is still there, email me if you have any interest and I will give you what I know about the locos as well as contact info for Omnitrax. I doubt an oppurtunity like this will come along again. (For the record, I do not work for Omnitrax and gain nothing for the sale of these locomotives, I just hate to see them scrapped)
