Since we're on a kick about 1960s tourist lines, I thought I'd toss this one out: Before the GCRR launched its tourist line in 1966, it had one other brush with hauling passengers: the 1962 NRHS convention. That year it was held in Atlanta and one of the field trips was to ride the GCRR, a few hours north of Atlanta. The GC, being without coaches, did what any enterprising shortline would do: It rounded up a string of SR bulkhead pulpwood racks to run for the fans. Then they added hay bales for seating.

I've been searching high and low, so far without success, for photos of this pre-insurance, pre-lawyer, pre-everything outing for a book on the line. First one to find and forward same, receives a cab ride in ... you guessed it, the 1925 herself!

The posts about the GCRR remind me that I missed visiting the line while steam was there. I recall photographing a very stationary diesel switcher in one location and half of a shay in another, but can't recall when that was. They say memory's the 2nd thing to go. Good luck with the book.
