Post subject:  TEA-21 renewal

The next revision of TEA-21 highway bill (to be called SAFETEA)has been submitted for hearings. It appears that the Enhancement Program remains intact and, since overall funding is to rise substantially, so will monies for historic preservation.

An interesting aside is that portions of the Interstate Highway System are reaching 50 years old. DOT wants these highways exempt from federal preservation guidelines.

Yes indeed--NEH is up for its most massive year-over-year finding increase in living memory for a program called "We the People". It was a big topic of discussion at the American Association of Museums annual meeting this past week.

If some of us play our cards right we could well get a piece of this. Here's the link:
