For those of you who are not aware. The CSRM is converting the 44 acre site of the former Sacramento Shops into a Railroad Technology Museum. Anyway, the first step in the restoration of this facility is now getting started. Which is the construction of a new transfer table. This table went in between the closely spaced Erecting & Boiler Shops. They are looking for tax-deductible donations.
Please send any donations to -
California State RR Museum
111 I Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
This complex will truly be a site to see when restored. Future Railfair events will be great!
Thanks,
Scott Wickert
Shay #23 "The Rebirth"
What happened to the transfer table? Wasn't it in use until a few years ago?
The transfer table was indeed in use at the Sacramento Shops until just recently. According to information I have heard...the last years of service for the table were just as the D&RGW merger took place.
The transfer table was retired partly because of age and partly because it could no longer handle the ever larger diesel locomotives.
